British American Tobacco may increase production of nicotine bags in Hungary
November 4,2020.
Budapest Business Magazine quoted the national news network MTI as reporting that British American Tobacco (BAT) may expand the production of nicotine bags at its Pecs plant in Hungary. This move will make Pekes Tobacco Factory the largest nicotine bag factory in BAT.
According to the plan, Peques’ cigarette production business will be transferred to other factories within the group.
Part of the restructuring of Pecks production structure may affect the number of employees, but the details are still under negotiation with employees.
Increasing the production of tobacco-free nicotine bags is suitable for BAT's strategy of providing consumers with a wider range of potentially less harmful products.
BAT built a 7.5 billion Heft (approximately US$24.61 million) nicotine bag factory in Pekes a year ago, increasing the number of employees in the factory by 100 people. Next year, the plant's output is expected to increase 3.5 times.
In 2019, BAT’s Peckers plant reported net income of 151.2 billion Herft. The company currently employs more than 900 employees in Hungary.
