France plans to test nicotine patches on patients with coronavirus July 22,2020.

Recently, French researchers plan to test nicotine patches on some French patients infected with the new coronavirus, as well as on the frontline medical staff to fight the epidemic. A previous study showed that smokers are less likely to contract the virus.

The study conducted in Paris, France, showed that certain components of tobacco help prevent smokers from contracting the virus. But the researchers also said that even with these ingredients, it is not to encourage people to start smoking. Because smoking causes damage to the lungs, it may also cause more severe symptoms in people infected with Covid-19.

Jean-Pierre Changeux, a famous French neurobiologist, believes that nicotine can prevent viruses from entering the body's cells. At the same time, nicotine may also reduce the overreaction of the immune system, which has appeared in the most severe cases of Covid-19.

In Paris, France, among the 11,000 covid19 patients surveyed by the researchers, only 8.5% were smokers, while the proportion of adult smokers in France was as high as 25.4%.
