Blue Hole New Consumer Report, July 28 news, a study published in "Addictive Behavior" found that neuroticism, one of the famous five high-order personality traits, is highly correlated with nicotine addiction.

It is well known that neuroticism (the tendency to frequently experience anxiety, worry, fear, anger, depression, and other negative emotions) is associated with a higher likelihood of drug use (including cigarette/nicotine addiction). This article is entitled "The influence of neuroticism on e-cigarette dependence and the influence of belief in use and quitting in dual users of flammable and e-cigarettes". This study aims to determine whether the same is true of e-cigarettes.

The researchers analyzed data collected from a cross-sectional survey of 437 traditional cigarette users and e-cigarette users. The aggregated results do show the relationship between neuroticism and e-cigarette dependence, which is not surprising considering that most e-cigarette users are former smokers.

The research abstract reads: "The results show that neuroticism is dependent on e-cigarettes (ΔR2=0.02, p<0.001), expectations of negative effects of e-cigarettes (ΔR2=0.03, p<0.001) and smoking cessation disorders (ΔR2=0.10, p <0.001) Significantly positive correlation."
